4 Obstacles That Make Writing Hard

I have been writing on Medium for about four and a half years now, yet I have written significantly less than I thought I would by this time. With 38 Medium blogs, I’m sitting at about eight blogs in a year. Now that may not sound too bad, but in 2021 that number was 3. Sometimes my lack of writing is due to work or life, but sometimes it’s just pure laziness. But there’s one main reason why I don’t write as much as I should, and that is —

writing is freaking hard.

While I have been getting better with writing over these last couple of years, I still get stuck trying to figure out what to say. This causes me to stop writing for weeks or even months, and hurts my visibility.

I’ve been trying to think of the reasons that cause me to struggle with writing, and I finally came up with a few that make writing hard for me, and I’m sure for other writers.

Trying to Stick with Certain Topics

I started on Medium by writing about my journey into tech and my perspective of the tech world as a black woman. As I started to get some recognition, I began to expand to writing about relationships, productivity, and other things that just happened to be on my mind.
